About our Servicing

SMAX Motors offers full and interim servicing for all makes of cars, vans and commercials.

A motor vehicle service is an essential series of maintenance procedures carried out at a set time interval or after your vehicle has travelled a certain distance. The service intervals are specified by the vehicle manufacturer in a service schedule and some modern cars display the due date for the next service electronically on the instrument panel. Call SMAX Motors at any time to check when your vehicle might need a thorough check-up. We will be only too happy to help with any questions or concerns.

Your completed service will be recorded in a service book which is rubber stamped by us upon completion of each service. This is recommended as a complete service history usually adds to the resale value of a vehicle.

Maintenance tasks carried out during a motor vehicle service at SMAX Motors includes:

Change the engine oil

Replace the oil filter

Replace the air filter

Replace the fuel filter

Replace the spark plugs

Tune the engine

Check level and refill brake fluid

Check level and refill power steering fluid

Check level and refill Automatic Transmission Fluid

Grease and lubricate components

Inspect and replace the timing belt if needed

Check condition of the tyres

Mechanical parts that may cause the car to cease transmission or prove unsafe for the road are also noted and advised upon. In the United Kingdom, few parts that are not inspected on the MOT test are inspected and advised upon a Service Inspection. These include:

Clutch

Gearbox

Car Battery

Engine components (further inspections than MOT)

Safety Checklist

Tyres

* Find out the correct tyre pressures for your car and check them at least every two weeks using a good-quality gauge or garage air line.

* Keep an eye on tyre tread and condition - look for cuts on sidewalls. If any one tyre needs regular top-ups, it may have a slow puncture.

* One last thing - don't forget to check the spare as well.

Engine oil

* Locate the dipstick and check at least every fortnight and before any long journey.

* Make sure you have the oil and filter changed at recommended service intervals using oil of the correct specification.

* TIP: A regular drop in oil level can indicate engine problems.

Toolkit

* Read your handbook for the location of the basic toolkit for the car that should contain at least a jack and wheel removal tools.

* Test jacking points used to lift the car safely for when you really need to use them on a trip!

* If locking wheel nuts are fitted make sure that the toolkit includes the key or removal tool.

Water

* Check coolant level often and top up as necessary – but only when the engine is cold.

* Antifreeze concentration levels must be checked before winter.

* Antifreeze is important all year round as it prevents the build-up of corrosion within the cooling system as well as stopping the coolant freezing.

Wipers

* Wiper blades wear down over time and smear the windscreen if they become worn.

* Replace them at least once a year for best performance.

Screenwash

* Check and top up regularly – it's a legal requirement that the system works.

* Use a good screenwash additive through summer and winter – water alone won't clear oily road grime and freezes more readily in winter.

Windscreen

* Check regularly for stone damage as this can impair vision or distract attention.

* Minor chips can grow and crack the glass but many can be repaired by a windscreen specialist.
